Sentinel 4/ 8 units support external serial modems.

Both units can provide an optional internal modem. The Scout II has a hardwired hard modem and the Sentinel 4/8 can provide a replaceable and upgradeable PCMCIA modem.

Universal Management and Compatibility

The Sentinel 4/8 does provide much more extensive monitoring, access and management to more types of devices and is compatible with more solutions. This enables you to monitor and manage any existing or new equipment immediately. You can monitor and manage that troublesome Brocade switch and Sun boxes until you are able to replace them. They you can redeploy the same ENS unit to manage the new equipment.

The Sentinel will work with anyone's intelligent power strips and enable the same ease of control by simply pushing a button. OPS Command Center and the integrated KVM solution can connect to and manage almost anyone's KVM.

Integration with Legacy KVM Equipment

OutPost Sentinel can enable legacy KVM equipment by installing our Secure Sentinel KVM over IP device. This allows customers with legacy analog equipment to allow the equipment to remain preserving the original investment yet enable the devices for remote access and management. This can be done cost-effectively by installing the Secure Sentinel and monitoring these units via the Command Center software. Command Center may be enabled for monitored Secure Sentinel devices at no additional software licensing cost.

SX200EL

Similar to the ML, the new SX-200 EL is based on the core hardware and software of the highly successful SX-200 LIGHT and provides enhanced functionality in a smaller footprint.

Console Management Software

Is there DHCP client?
This means that you must manually enter IP addresses and that it will not work on a network were IP addresses are dynamically allocated. The Sentinel operates in either environment utilizing either static IP addresses or DHCP server assigned IP addresses. Just plug it in and go! The Sentinel accommodates many more users and better defines the rights and privileges of each user or group. It automatically streams the buffer contents to a database for storage and provides a real time audit trail for all device activity. The Sentinel does more than collect the console messages in a buffer. It can scan all the console messages in the buffer and is capable of reacting (automated response) to every message. This means the Sentinel can operate in a true lights out facility and utilizing less man power.

vs. Scout II

Physical Differences:

The Sentinel 4 and 8 have many more system resources and much more memory and computing power than the Scout II. The individual ports are eight times faster than the ScoutII - 115 Kbps vs. 921 Kbps bi-directional speeds for the Sentinel-4/8. The Sentinel-4/8 also has FIFO registers that are twenty (20) times larger than the Scout II. This results in better data integrity with fewer errors or over-runs.

The ENS-Lite product has only one 10/100 Ethernet port. The Sentinel-4/8 are capable of supporting multiple 10/100 Ethernet ports for high speed and dual networks. It can monitor and report to a redundant network or to two separate networks such as a public and private network at a remote location. Also, if one of the ports were disabled (ESD or unplugged) it would continue to operate.

Both Units are capable of supporting an external modem and dial back features and both units have optional internal modems. However, the Sentinel 4-8 has a replaceble PCMCIA modem and the Scout II does not. The Sentinel can also support USB with memory stick storage and applications or wireless connectivity. It has in rack console and KVM ports and a a dedicated OBM (Out of Band Management) port. The Sentinel 4 and 8 and the ENS-4/8/16/32 allow in rack KVM and Console access and if plugged into a KVM port allows the display of 32 consoles over a single KVM port. The dedicated OBM and USB ports allow enable mission critical access and even wireless communication and automated fail over communications.
